Echigo-ya was founded by Takatoshi Mitsui in 1673 (Yenho Gen).
In 1904, it became the "Mitsukoshi Kimono Store" and reached the current "Mitsukoshi".
In the same year, the department store declaration was issued, making it the first department store in Japan.
The main building in the Renaissance style includes a lion statue, a gorgeous statue of a heavenly woman, and the Mitsukoshi Theater where Kabuki and theater are held, making it a facility full of highlights.
