Ginza Area Ginza Area
In the Edo period, the Ginza was lined with exchange shops.
It also prospered as a source of Western culture.
An area where top overseas brand stores and long-established stores coexist
In 1612 (1612), the Edo Shogunate established a silver coin foundry in this area, and the current Ginza Street was lined with currency exchangers. "Ginza" is the name of the government office that handles silver coins, and the government office that handles gold coins (koban) was called "Kinza". It became Ginza as a town name in 1869 (1869), and at this time Shinryogaecho 1-chome became Ginza 1-chome. In this history, Ginza has many monuments that promoted the modernization of Japan, including historic sites from the Edo period, and an explanation version has been set up to guide those who take a walk.
In addition, the downtown area, which has prospered as a center of Western culture from an early age, is the most sophisticated and fashionable city in Japan, and famous stores such as top overseas brand shops and long-established stores that have continued for generations are lined up mainly on Chuo-dori. The pedestrian paradise, which is crowded with many people on weekends, has been held for the first time in Japan in 1970 (1970) between the Ginza Doriguchi intersection and the Ginza 8-chome intersection, and is still popular as a place for people to relax.
