Mitsui Main Building and Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Main Store

The Mitsui Main Building was completed in 1929 as an office building for major Mitsui companies. In 1998, it was designated as a national important cultural property as a large-scale office building. The exterior is heavyweight of granite, and the main column pillar that extends from the first floor above the ground has a characteristic pillar decoration, and the upper part is also decorated with various designs.
Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Honten began with the opening of a kimono dealer "Echigo-ya" in Nihonbashi during the Edo period. In 1904, we made the "Department Store Declaration" and realized one-stop shopping as the first department store in Japan, and made a proposal to modernize the lifestyle and culture of Japanese people since the Meiji era. In 1927, along with the completion of the Mitsukoshi Main Store, the Mitsukoshi Hall was opened as the first theater in the world's department store. Currently, a wide range of theater performances are being performed as the Mitsukoshi Theater.
