Anjin Miura Site
The site of a British man's residence in Designated Cultural Property
British William Adams, a navigator of the Dutch East India Company Orient Dispatched Company, drifted ashore in Sashiu, Oita Prefecture due to a storm in Keicho 5 (1600). Later, he became Ieyasu's trade adviser and contributed to the development of Japan-UK trade. At present, the land of Anjin residence in Muromachi 1-chome was designated as a Tokyo Prefectural Historic Site in June 1930, and a monument was built by a local volunteer in July of the same year, but was destroyed by the war. The current monument was built in May 1951.
