The birthplace of postal mail
A place commemorating the start of the modern postal system
Japan's modern postal system began in 1871 between Tokyo and Osaka, with the initiative of Mitsuyoshi Maejima. Here, when the new system was launched, the bust and monument of Maejima Mitsuru were built in 1962, where the Tokyo Post Office (now the Central Post Office) was in charge of the postal business.
