Shipping Bridge stone pillar
Removed by reclaiming the river. Only the main pillars (historical sites in the ward) exist today.
Shipping Bridge is a bridge that spans the Kaede River, which flows between Motozaimokucho and Sakamotocho. In the middle of the Edo period, Higashizume had a residence of Shogen Mukai, a pirate magistrate (Mifunete head), so it was called Pirate Bridge or Shogen Bridge. It was renamed "Shipping Bridge" in 1868, and was replaced by a Western-style arch-shaped stone bridge in 1886. At present, the bridge has been removed because the river has been buried and it has become a highway, and only two main pillars stand.
