The birthplace of the bank
Where the National Bank was first established
In 1872, the government enacted the "National Banking Ordinance" to establish a national bank under state control in order to stabilize financial markets. The following year, eight people, including Hachiroemon Mitsui and Zensuke Ono, established the first Tokyo Daiichi National Bank in this area. The building was a Japanese-Western eclectic architecture, designed and constructed by Kiyonori Kisuke Shimizu.
