The birthplace of Keio Gijuku
The site of the Rangaku Juku, founded by Yukichi Fukuzawa
In 1858, Yukichi Fukuzawa opened a Dutch school in this area to teach Dutch studies, and later Keio Gijuku began. Initially, it started with 5 to 6 students, but in Keio 4 (1868), the school was moved to Shiba, and after the time, it was named "Keio Gijuku".
