The ruins of Tsukiji residence in Tosa Domain
Tsukiji House, Tosa Domain, where Ryoma lived in a young age
This land was reclaimed in the early Edo period and became a samurai area and townspeople area. In 1826, the land of this area was gathered together, and the Tosa clan Yamauchi family worshiped. The Yamauchi family seemed to have been in Nakayashiki or Shimoyashiki, and they were in this area until late Tokugawa shogunate. Toyoshige Yamanouchi (Yodo), famous during the transformation of late Tokugawa shogunate, was the fifteenth generation, and was feudal lord when he set up his residence here. During the late Tokugawa shogunate period, Hanpeita Takechi, who formed the Tosa Kino Party and advocated overthrowing the Shogunate, went to the nearby Shigakukan Dojo (currently around Ginza 1-chome and Kyobashi Park), and Ryoma, who came to Edo for training swordsmanship, seems to have been in Okemachi (currently part of Yaesu 2-chome and Kyobashi 2-chome) while boarding at Tsukiji residence in the Tosa Domain in this area.
