Monument to the Department of the Navy set up on the site of Yuonen Garden
The Meiji government established the Department of the Navy in Tsukiji in 1872 (1872). Originally, the "Navy Lord Flag" was displayed on the artificial hill in Yuen Garden, where the lower house of Sadanobu Matsudaira was located. Looking at this flag, people called this mountain Flag Mountain, and a stone monument engraved with "Flag Mountain" is still standing in front of the Mizu Shrine as the birthplace of the Navy. (Currently, it is not possible to visit the site of the market.)
