Namiki Inari-jinja Shrine
A shrine with the "protection against misfortune God Ceiling Large Lion" that cuts off the waves
It is said to be a shrine founded during the Manji period (1658-61) due to the fact that waves led to the completion of construction that was extremely difficult to reclaim the entire Tsukiji area. Both the water bowl of Namiki Inari Shrine and the lion head of a pair of males and females are registered as private folk cultural properties in the ward. The festival of the shrine has been famous as the "Lion Festival" since the Edo period, and even today, at the main festival of the "Tsukiji Lion Festival", which is held once every three years, one of the two large lions is carried along with Miya portable shrine.
