The largest prison in the bakufu (Designated Cultural Property, capital) surrounded by banks and moats
Temmacho Prison was the largest prison in the Shogunate, over 2,600 tsubo.
It was the first place outside Tokiwa Hashikado, and was moved to this area during the Keicho era (1596-1615) and became the rule of Edomachi magistrate.
In 1875 (1875), Ichigaya Prison was established and abolished, and the ruins of the prison have become Jisshi Park, Jushi Square (former Jushi Elementary School), Daianrakuji Temple, Minobu Betsuin, etc.
